Welcome to the new Think Monk blog where I share a new book each week. At the moment I’m reading 5 books each month and the plan is to share them here online.
I read multiple books at once, so I don’t actually finish one book each week. There could be 10, 20 or more books on the go at any one time. Three weeks might pass and I don’t finish reading any books and then I might finish five in a couple of days.
The thought of starting just one book and reading it from start to finish just doesn’t do it for me. I much prefer variety. I’m rarely ever reading fewer than five books at the same time.
This year I have decided to finish five books every month so about half way through the month I’ll decide which books to finish. Usually I’m much more casual about what I read at any one time. I’ll have a few piles in easy to access places and just read whatever I feel like reading.
But now that I have the 5 book goal each month I make sure to achieve it. Which also means that once I do read those 5 books I’ll make sure I don’t finish any others. So if it’s the 20th of the month and my goal has been achieved I’ll then focus more on those big 700 page tomes that take a bit longer to get through.
I probably read too much but I enjoy it, so I really don’t care. If I was spending too much time watching television or drinking at a bar then I would have a problem. Reading too many books is not a problem, especially if they’re educational or inspiring.
I’m not much of a fiction fan but I am trying to be, a little bit. I would like to say I’ll finish one fictional book each month but I’m not ready to set that goal yet. I just don’t know what my niche is when it comes to books of fiction. I just haven’t read enough to know what I like yet. Any suggestions of GREAT books to read are very welcome.
Non-fiction is where it’s at for me. Topics I like include art, psychology, motivation, spirituality, ancient history, health, birds, plants, media, business, technology, investing, real estate, space, aliens, and biographies of inspirational people. I’ll try almost anything at least once though.
Topics I now avoid include politics, geopolitics, politicians, government employees, and the monsters who control and manipulate them. I also used to read lots of books that questioned the system but eventually tired of walking around in circles. I’ll still flirt with the odd system-questioning book but I’ve mostly banned myself from reading biographies on politicians. Political leaders are retarded puppets put in charge to keep the masses occupied as if we ever got around to connecting any dots at all we would see that we’re farm animals.
My focus is now on self improvement. If I can’t learn something interesting or improve myself in some way then I’m not interested. I’m also open to being entertained by books with fiction but I’m still new to that area.
